History, Culture, an Orchard, a Movie, a Dinner at an Inn & So Much More!
September 14, 2010 – Tuesday
Frederick sits at a crossroads of history and has been witness to many pivotal events. Overshadowed by nearby Baltimore and Washington, D.C., Maryland’s second-largest city is a cultural and architectural gem often overlooked by visitors to this region. Discover the charm and the history of this delightful area.
Our tour begins with a visit to Catoctin Orchard for a driving tour through the orchard and free time at the market where you will have some shopping time.
Sit back and take in the views—from the famous "clustered spires," to notable Federal-style architecture—during a driving tour as a local step-on guide weaves the right mix of history with stories of the town as we tour. The tour includes a stop at the Community Bridge Mural, where an artist has transformed a plain concrete bridge into a permanent illusion of an old stone and ivy covered bridge... a must see!
Continue to downtown Frederick where you will have time on your own in this compact, easily-explored area. Enjoy some free time to have lunch on your own at one of the many restaurants and then take a stroll to discover a Great American Main Street. The downtown is honeycombed with churches, restored mansions, interesting shops and arts centers.
Step back in time at the historic Weinberg Center for the Arts, a restored 1926 movie palace that now provides a variety of entertainment and performances. Our nostalgic visit includes a specially arranged showing of a silent movie accompanied by an organist playing the theater’s mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ.
Dinner is included at The Carriage House Inn where you will enjoy a delicious meal featuring Jumbo Lump Maryland Crab Cake & Certified Angus Top Round of Beef over Rice Pilaf with a Mushroom Madeira
Price: $90.50 per person
Includes: Round-trip motorcoach transportation, Catoctin Orchard, guided tour of Frederick, free time in Frederick, Weinberg Center for the Arts with silent movie and organ recital, wine tasting at Frederick Cellars, dinner at Carriage House Inn, meal tax and gratuity and driver’s gratuity.
